The response to our "2008 Student Equipment Grant" competition was tremendous! We received a great number of very well-written, scientific proposals, making it extremely hard for our selection committee to pick two winners, and may we thank all those that participated.
We are now delighted to announce that the top award goes to Laura Trodden of Cardiff University, who will receive a Vectrino to study The hydraulic preferences of invertebrates when exposed to varying factors, such as current flow, slope, bed structure, and roughness. In addition, Laura will also receive a £500 travel grant to present a paper on the subject at a scientific conference later this year.
The second winner, David McGovern of Lancaster University will receive a Vectrino to study Scour around the mounts of offshore wind turbines.
We encourage those interested in participating in our next award, to keep an eye out for the announcement due in August / September of this year. Alternatively you could register your interest now by email, to ensure that you are on the mailing list (graphic of a little envelope with link)
