The winners of the Nortek 2008 Student Equipment Grant Awards are:
Level 1 Award:
Laura Trodden of Cardiff University
"The hydraulic preferences of invertebrates when exposed to varying factors, such as current flow, slope, bed structure, and roughness".
Equipment granted: Vectrino plus a £500 travel grant to present a paper on the subject at a scientific conference later this year.
Level 2 Award:
David McGovern of Lancaster University
"Scour around the mounts of offshore wind turbines."
Equipment granted: Vectrino
Figure 2 shows the test setup for the rigid bed series of tests. The figure numbers represent the same features as in figure 2 except number 3. (3) Shows the rigid bed scour hole. There will be three different changeable scour hole models; an initial flat bed, intermediate and equilibrium hole.
